City Palace is a palace complex in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan State of India. City Palace includes the Chandra Mahal and Mubarak Mahal and other buildings. The best part of Chandra Mahal is, it is still a Royal Residence. City Palace is located in the northeast of the center of the grid patterned Jaipur city. It was built between 1729 and 1732, initially by ‘Sawai Jai Singh II’ (the ruler of Amber).

Chandra Mahal, Mubarak Mahal, Mukut Mahal, Maharani’s Palace, Shri Govind Dev Temple and the City Palace Museum are the most prominent and most visited structures in the complex.

 

Mubarak Mahal

The meaning of Mubarak Mahal is “Auspicious Palace” which was built in the late 19th century by Maharaja Madho Singh II.Mubarak Mahal is a Museum, which has a variety of textiles such as Sanganeri, royal formal costumes, silk sari and Kashmiri pashminas.

 


Chandra Mahal

Chandra Mahal is also called Chandra Niwas. It is the most commanding building in the complex. Chandra Mahal has seven floors and each floor has been given a specific name such as Sukh-Niwas, Ranga Mandir, Pitam Niwas, Chabi Niwas, Shri Niwas, and Mukut Mandir.

 

Maharani Palace

In the past Century, it was originally the residence of the Royal Queens. Now it has been converted into a museum where weapons used by royalty during the war are displayed.

 

Govind Dev Ji Temple

It is a part of City Palace complex, which is dedicated to the Hindu god Lord Krishna. This temple was built in the 18th century. The ceiling of this temple is ornamented with gold.
