Bollywood Film Actor Dilip Kumar was born on 11 December 1922 and was also known as Tragedy King. Dilip Kumar’s first film ‘Jwar Bhata’ which was produced by Bombay Talkies in 1944. His career has spread over six decades and with over 60 films. Dilip was cast in films in a variety of genres such as the historical Mughal-e-Azam (1960), the romantic Andaz (1949), the swashbuckling Aan (1952), the dramatic Devdas (1955), the comical Azaad (1955), and the social Ganga Jamuna (1961).

In 1976, Dilip Kumar took a five-year break from film and comeback with a role in the film Kranti which was released in 1981 and continued his career playing leading roles in superhit films such as Shakti (1982), Karma (1986) and Saudagar (1991). His last film was Qila (1998).

Dilip Kumar has won 9 Film Fare Awards and he is the first recipient of Film fare Best Actor Award in 1954.

Dilip Kumar was honored with the Padma Bhushan in 1991, Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 and India’s second highest civilian award, the Padma Vibhushan in 2015 by the Government of India for his contributions to Indian cinema. and nominated him to Rajya Sabha, the upper house of Indian Parliament for a term. The Government of Pakistan honored him with its highest civilian honor, the Nishan-e-Imtiaz, in 1997. Dilip Kumar was also honored with CNN-IBN lifetime achievement Award in 2009.
